| Whanganui Inlet (Westhaven), one of New Zealand's largest tidal inlets, is unique for being largely unmodified. It has the protective status of Marine Reserve and Wild Life Management Area. There is a wharf where you can launch your own boat. Bird life includes species such as the Bar-tailed Godwit which migrates from Siberia, White Heron, Blue Heron and Bittern.
